Junior Church
St Hilda's Junior Church meets during term-time on Sunday mornings from 9.30 to 10.45 in the Hall for Worship, Singing, Memory work and Fun Activities. Currently there are 85 children aged from 3 to 15 years in six age groups led by teachers and helpers. Work done by the children is displayed in the Church in the Junior Church Corner.
The children are involved in planning and running the Family Service held on the first Sunday of each month at 9.30 am. These Services capture the imagination of the children who grow in confidence as they become more involved in a responsible way in the life and worship of the Community. They are enjoyed by parents and congregation alike.
On Good Friday, Junior Church holds a three-hour Activity Session from 12 until 3 pm - including hot cross buns and a picnic lunch. The session ends with a Play and short Service to which parents are invited.
Imbuing our young people with the Good News is both fun and rewarding - new teachers and helpers are always welcome to join. Please contact the Junior Church Superintendant, Chris Davenport, if you want to know more about joining a very happy, rewarding and active group.
All teachers and helpers have Police clearance to work with children and the Hall provides a safe and well supervised environment.
Senior Group
St Hilda's Junior Choir participates in the monthly Family Services and usually performs an item on its own. William Goulden was presented with the RSCM light-blue ribbon on 1st February 2004 in recognition of his leadership role in the Junior Choir. We have welcomed several new members in recent months and it is hoped that this will encourage greater involvement in the worship at St Hilda's. Jane Husband has assisted in this venture. New members of Junior Choir would be most welcome.
Junior Choir have a short practice on Sunday mornings after the 9.30 Service. They are available to sing at wedding services.
The Mother and Toddler Group meets on Wednesday mornings in the Hall. We provide a social contact for parents and fun activities for toddlers and babies. Activities include playdoh, iced biscuits, painting and, in the summer, a sand pit and playing with water as well as lots of 'craft' activities making things. Singing and dancing is also popular with the little ones as they learn to interact with each other.
We also do some fundraising for the Church and the Shooting Star appeal through raffles.
For more information about this happy group contact Jan Frost and Alison Garner.
Rainbow Guides are the youngest members of the Guide Association for girls aged five to seven. 3rd Ashford Rainbows meet on Wednesday evenings at St Hilda's Church Hall from 5.15 to 6.15 pm. There are fifteen Rainbows and they enjoy a programme of games, songs, stories and craft activities.
3rd Ashford is a busy, thriving, Guide Unit. It meets in the Small Hall on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 pm. The Unit currently has 40 girls, led by 4 Guiders and 6 Young Leaders. The 40 girls, aged from 10 to 15 years, are divided into 7 Patrols, each under the leadership of a Patrol Leader and a Patrol Second.
Meetings provide a wide range of activities to interest all the girls, including groups doing preparation work towards various badges, patrol work, service projects and games. During the summer months time is spent on preparation for camp, particularly skills such as pitching tents, lighting fires, cooking and knotting.
There are also special events such as World Thinging Day, camps, Division and District activities and sports.
The Guides do their share of service in the community, and for others, planting bulbs in the Church grounds, helping with Church functions and Front-of-House duties for St Hilda's Entertainers. They also help Brownie and Rainbow Units in the District and parade at St Hilda's Family Services.
